About

My name is Show Sawmura

From the age of seven, I belonged to a children's theater troupe, appearing in numerous TV programs and stage productions.

I starred in NHK’s youth drama series “Pursuit Toward Tomorrow” and “Bakumatsu Time Traveler.”

While majoring in theater at Toho Gakuen College of Drama and Music and pursuing a career as an actor, a turning point came when I met Princess Tenko.

Immersed in the world of international performance, I was captivated more deeply with each show abroad.

As a professional magician, I not only performed on stage but also took part in directing, designing magic effects, costumes, and ornamental pieces. With the theme of “rediscovering the happiness felt through all five senses when people are delighted,” I’ve drawn on my entertainment experience to offer workshops and corporate training that combine the techniques of magic with the expressive power of acting. Today, I am fulfilling a long-held dream as a jewelry artist and sculptural creator. The 38 years I spent designing costumes, stage sets, and decorations have naturally led me to this new creative path.

I create each piece with heartfelt prayers—so that those who hold my work may find their present and future illuminated, and even their past transformed into something beautiful.
Notable works include:
- “Phoenix Dance, Phoenix Song”
- “The Exquisite Dragon”
- “Ascending Dragon
Embracing the Jewel”
- “Face Tiara Jupiter”
- “Six Realms Soaring Dragon”
Whenever I contemplate the universe and the harmony of the world, images of new creations rise up one after another.

Thoughts

Thoughts on Sawamura's creation

One day, as I touched the sacred tree of a shrine, the words “man,” “woman,” and “purification” descended upon me like particles of light.

Guided by the words of a shrine maiden —“You carry the role of purification”— an image of creating a dragon surged forth, even before I began crafting the gods of fire and water.

That voice echoed from the cosmos within, awakening a flame deep inside me. The dragon receives the wishes of good-hearted people, and delivers them to the divine realm above.

Since childhood, I have always wanted to be of service to others.

The more I came to understand the dragon, the more I wished to become like one myself— a being that connects with the unseen world, and carries human prayers to the heavens.

Art, to me, is a form of dialogue. Between the creator and the beholder, a silent conversation unfolds deep within the heart, and from that, light is born.

It is not debate, but a dialogue of souls— a whisper between “the sound of words and the sound of words.”

I wish to create works that go beyond beauty, that heal sorrow and kindle hope.

With boundless love and hope as my theme, I place dreams upon the dragon, so it may gently carry people’s wishes to the sky. My art is love and harmony itself— a prayer that softly embraces the hearts of those who gaze upon it.

My Story

Get to Know Me

From the age of seven, I performed with a children’s theater company, appearing in numerous television and stage productions, including leading roles in NHK’s “Pursuit for Tomorrow” and “Bakumatsu Time Travelers.”
While studying acting at Toho Gakuen University, a destined meeting with Princess Tenko marked a turning point in my artistic journey.

As her global performances reached audiences around the world, I became deeply enchanted by the power of stage magic and live expression.
Beyond performing as a professional magician, I expanded my creative vision to direction, illusion design, costume making, and stage adornment—transforming the stage into a form of total art.

My guiding theme is “the radiant joy felt when people are truly moved.”
Merging the techniques of magic with the expressive language of theatre, I have shared this spirit through lectures, performances, and creative training programs.
Today, I pursue my long-held dream as a jewelry artist and sculptor.

Decades of experience in stage design and craftsmanship flow naturally into my current creations.
Each piece is born from prayer—that those who hold it may see their present and future shimmer, softly illuminating even their past.

Selected works include:
Hōbu Hōyō (Dance of the Phoenix) / Reirou no Ryū (The Luminous Dragon) /
Shōryū Hōshu (Rising Dragon Embracing the Jewel) / Face Tiara Jupiter /
Rokkai Hishōryū (Dragon Soaring through Six Realms)

When I contemplate the universe and the harmony of the world, new visions arise endlessly, taking form through light and creation.

“Dragon”

“Kōaitenshō — The Crystalline Dragon”
A dragon that ascends with radiant love,
carrying wishes in its clear, bell‑like light.
“Ascending Dragon with the Wish‑Granting Jewel”
The pond dragon finds the wish‑granting nyoi hōju,
grasps it, and ascends to the heavens,
summoning clouds and thunder.

“Dragons in Japan and Across Asia”
Dragons—especially golden dragons—have long captivated people and appear in countless legends.
Their golden brilliance symbolizes strength and blessing, and they are widely revered as emblems of good fortune.
From ancient times to today, the golden dragon is believed to bring prosperity and luck, offering hope to all who see it

2

The Houou

“When it appears, peace descends upon the world.”
— *Shanhaijing, Nanshanjing* (an ancient Chinese classic) When the Houou reveals itself, the realm becomes tranquil. It is the emblem of **perfect peace** and an **age of harmony**. When **benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom, and sincerity** are fully present, the Houou lets its feathers shine. When gentle harmony fills the land, the Houou descends from the heavens.

*Benevolence (仁): compassion
Righteousness (義): moral integrity
Propriety (礼): harmonious conduct

3

“Celestiara”

Celesti (Celestia) = celestial, mysterious, and noble
Tiara = crown
A coined word that fuses Celestia and Tiara.
It carries poetic and symbolic meanings such as
“a queen’s crown blessed by the heavens” or
“a vessel of prayer imbued with celestial dignity.”
This tiara is based on one of Sawamura’s early signature works from the beginning of his stage-decoration career, “Princess Tiara.”
It consists of a gold tiara inspired by a queen and a silver tiara inspired by a queen consort.

4

“Princess Tiara”

This crown was born 38 years ago from Princess Tenko’s wish.
It evokes a near‑future Neo‑Japan
and reflects a dream of Asia expanding into the cosmos.
A crown of light where Cleopatra’s elegance
intersects with the radiance of the Buddha.
Each tiara carries its own soul
and begins to breathe through my fingertips.
When its form rises and the moment of “This is it” resonates,
light is born, and the joy of creation fills my heart

Dragon

The Presence of Dragons in Japan and Asia Among them, the golden dragon has long captivated people, appearing in countless legends and stories.
Its radiant golden form symbolizes strength and blessing, and is revered across many cultures as a symbol of good fortune. From ancient times to the present day,
the golden dragon has been believed to bring prosperity and luck, offering hope to those who behold it.
People are drawn to dragons because they are sacred beings that bridge heaven and earth— symbols of power, beauty, mystery, and protection that resonate deeply with the soul.
In the East, dragons have long been deified as spiritual creatures, while in the West, they appear in tales as mythical beings.
Across cultures, dragons stir the imagination and awaken spiritual longing.
Why are people so enchanted by dragons?
First and foremost, because they are divine intermediaries.
Dragons are believed to connect gods and humans, carrying prayers and wishes to the heavens.
In dragon deity worship, dragons are seen as gods of water and wind, governing the forces of nature and symbolizing purification and protection.
Their form itself is said to embody powerful energy and guardianship— and people feel that presence.
Dragons are considered beings of extremely high frequency, appearing in resonance with the “trembling of the soul.”
Those with sincerity, a spirit of service, and a strong inner axis are said to harmonize easily with dragons.
As auspicious symbols of prosperity, dragons were once emblems of emperors in ancient China.
The five-clawed dragon represented the highest authority.
In Japan, too, dragons are revered as lucky omens, symbols of fortune, abundance, and blessing.
Legends say the Japanese archipelago resembles the shape of a dragon soaring through the sky.
Shrines such as Kuzuryu Shrine, which enshrine dragon deities, show how deeply dragons are rooted in Japanese culture and mythology.
They are symbols that connect nature and the human heart.
Though invisible, dragons are said to quietly appear at turning points in life, moments of awakening.
Their mystery stirs inner memory and mythic sensibility.
Dragons are beings that bridge the absolute divine and humanity— in other words, they help fulfill our wishes, hopes, and dreams by connecting us to the heavenly realm.
Since childhood, I’ve felt joy in being of service to others.
As a human being, I’ve always wanted to be someone who helps others.
If the art I create can light a warm flame in someone’s heart and bring happiness, then perhaps I, too, can become a dragon— a presence that helps fulfill people’s wishes, hopes, and dreams.
That is why I am drawn to dragons.

The Exquisite Dragon:
A Dedication Story to Susu Shinto Shrine in Oku-Noto
Chapter 1

Chapter 1

"With heartfelt prayers for Noto’s restoration and the tranquility of its people, a dragon statue is solemnly offered to Susu Shrine."

Chapter 2

Chapter 2

It was December, and sleet was falling in Oku-Noto. I was alone in the open worship hall, gazing absentmindedly at the main hall, built approximately 2,100 years ago, through a dragon statue. As the prayer began, the air became still and I forgot the cold. For a strange moment, I didn't know where I was.

Chapter 3

Chapter 3

The Kagura dance was quietly and purely beautiful, and before I knew it, I had naturally bowed my head.
I was simply and grateful.
It wasn't a personal joy, but rather, I felt as I looked down on the world from the worship hall, sensing the process of something being put into order and improving.

Chapter 4

Chapter 4

Whether it was a fleeting moment or eternity, even the sense of time had faded.
Before I knew it, my hands were clasped, and tears streamed down my cheeks.
When the norito and kagura had ended and I looked up, sunlight shone only between the worship hall and the main sanctuary.

Chapter 5

Chapter 5

“The deity has arrived,” said the Gonnegi. My chest trembled, and tears overflowed—beyond joy, beyond gratitude.
Something stirred deep within my soul, filled my heart, and the tears simply would not stop.
It was a first—an experience unlike any I had ever known

The silver tiara bears the name “Glow of Innocence.”
Its image evokes the quiet, gentle light born from a queen’s pure heart.
On a serene night, she stands in silence atop the castle tower.
Bathed in the cool glow of the blue moon, what thoughts pass through her mind?
Perhaps of a prince from a distant land yet unseen, or of blossoms named Hope, blooming in the spring.
Under the moonlit sky, the tiara shines with purity— its name: Glow of Innocence.

Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system and is regarded in astrology as the most auspicious of the lucky stars.

In Western astrology, it is known as a “benefic” planet that brings good fortune, encouraging growth and expansion.

The name “Jupiter” originates from “Jupiter” (or “Jove”), the supreme deity in Roman mythology.
In Greek mythology, this god is known as Zeus—the all-powerful ruler of the heavens.

This piece was purchased at the charity auction held for the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake recovery efforts.

The houou

鳳凰

Explanation of the The houou (鳳凰)

When speaking of the phoenix, I would first like to touch upon its distinction from the Western phoenix.
The houou (鳳凰) is a sacred bird of the East; the phoenix, an immortal bird of the West.
The hōō symbolizes harmony and auspiciousness, while the phoenix represents rebirth and immortality.
In terms of spirituality, the houou values order and virtue, whereas the phoenix emphasizes transformation and eternity.
Their mystique is rooted in different cultural contexts.
Both are beautiful and sacred beings, yet the origin of my creative expression lies in a wish for world peace.
Eastern wisdom teaches us: “The universe is a mirror of the human heart.”
Human beings and nature are originally one life shared, and the truth of this is found in the philosophy of “unity between heaven and humanity.”
That is why we must quiet our hearts and deeply contemplate the harmony of the cosmos.
The symbol of “peace” and “harmony,” which are the themes of my life and artistic creation, is the houou.
The houou is not merely a beautiful bird—it heralds an ideal age, the arrival of peace, and spiritual maturity.
In ancient Chinese mythology, it is said to appear only in times of perfect peace and harmony,
soaring through the sky with radiant five-colored feathers, and announcing the emergence of a sacred ruler and the tranquility of the world with its beautiful song.
Furthermore, the depiction of the hōō as a male-female pair is based on the philosophy of yin and yang.
The male “hou” and the female “ou” together form a complete whole,
embodying cosmic balance and harmony, and thus fulfilling the meaning of a perfect spiritual bird.

《Title》
Hōbu Ōyō — When the Phoenix Dances and Sings, the World Truly Awakens

《Artwork Concept》
When perfect peace and harmony descend upon the world,
the male phoenix, Hō, transforms joy into five-colored light and soars across the sky,
its wings gently embracing both heaven and earth.
The female phoenix, Ō, sings with a clear and resounding voice,
its song calming conflict, healing sorrow,
and kindling a light of hope in every heart.

This is no mere omen.
It is a sign that people love one another,
that life honors life.
The dance and song of the phoenix
are a blessing to all living beings,
and a promise to the future.

Princess Tiara

Sawamura's signature stage costumes

Princess Tiara

Representative Work in Stage Decoration A tiara created for Princess Tenko, produced continuously from 1985 to 2015.

In 1985, Princess Tenko shared with me the concept for a new stage production she was directing— a story of a princess from a magical kingdom in the cosmos.

It was the vision for the opening sequence, the costumes, the ornaments, the stage set, and the illusions. While the costume ideas were already well developed, the crown—the tiara—was the one element that simply could not be finalized.

Costumes and accessories are usually commissioned from professional costume houses, and Western-style designs are often based on stages in Paris or Las Vegas. However, the crown Princess Tenko envisioned had no existing references, and its creation proved extremely challenging.

One day, she said to me, “My image isn’t getting across. Sawamura-kun, do you understand what I mean?” The keywords she gave me were: “Near-future Asia, Neo-Japan, or perhaps another planet resembling Earth.” To that, I added the images of “princess” and “magic”. By increasing the number of crystals and designing an upper structure that evoked a radiant halo, the tiara that would become the present-day Princess Tiara was born.

The completed tiara matched perfectly with the worldbuilding and costumes of the new production, and it became one of Princess Tenko’s favorites, used for many years.

This tiara became one of my early signature works, and based on this design, I went on to create various versions—gold, silver, white, and star-adorned tiaras.

A reflection of heart and cosmos through the mark of the dragon
The universe is a mirror of the heart,
its form revealed in response to the resonance of karma.
The suffering and sorrow that fill the Six Realms
are received by the presence of the dragon,
who carries them into the boundless cosmos,
letting the winds of purification sweep through.
Upon the purified Earth, boundaries dissolve,

《Work Concept》
The universe is a mirror of the heart.
In response to the resonance of karma, it quietly reflects its form.
The suffering and sorrow that fill the six worlds—the Six Realms—
are received by the dragon,
carried into the infinite cosmos,

In a purified Earth, boundaries no longer exist,
and within that stillness, we gaze upward at the dragon’s path.
The hexagonal canvas symbolizes both the structure of the universe
